Who didn’t experience at least once the loss of all their hard disk data? I surely had my share of disaster. Being too lazy to do frequent backups, I had to work hard to restore things I had in my computer and some of them were lost forever (like personal photos, which I didn’t share with anybody else). Not to mention that if you have a small business, the loss of data may result in loss of money and credibility in front of your clients. Of course, there are data recovery services, but they may cost you a lot and they are not 100% secure.
For such situations (actually for avoiding them), there is a solution: online backup is a way of having your data automatically backed up and safely stored. There are several online backup providers. One of them is IBackup, a service which has won the PC World Award in 2006, and which was featured as PC Magazine editor’s choice. What makes it so special? Beyond the automatically scheduled backups, the drive letter access to your data, or the availability from any place (via a web browser), IBackup has enabled the Open File backups, which make it possible that you have your Outlook files saved as well. SQL server, Exchange and Oracle databases hot backup is also available.
The prices are structured in such a way that people who only need partial backups of their hard disks can go for an economy plan, thus avoiding to pay for something they don’t use at full capacity. For those who have a lot of data to be stored, the maximum displayed plan is for 300GB (with up to 10 subaccounts available, suitable for small companies).
The servers where your data is stored are monitored permanently, in order to prevent any attempt of network attack. Encryption on storage uses 256 bit AES encryption, in addition to 128 bit SSL encryption during transmission, so you can be sure that nobody else will have access to your confidential data.
If you want to try before you buy, you can go for the one month trial offered by IBackup.
Online or not, all of us should pay more attention to storing our important data, as computers are more and more part of our lives.
